In senior secondary classes, students get three academic stream options to study which are science, commerce, and humanities respectively. Many students go for the science stream and study subjects physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Because of the applicative portions, and detailed biological process, science is difficult for many students. Let us discuss some effective tips that teachers can follow to make science subjects more understandable for students in class eleventh and twelfth.

Effective science teaching tips to senior secondary classes

1. Use technology to teach

In senior secondary classes, the science stream becomes complex and detailed for students. Understanding the applicative physics, chemistry portions, and theoretical biological processes from textbooks can be difficult for students. In such cases, technology helps. By using online teaching apps and sites, teachers can access several audiovisual tools like educational videos, modules, demonstrations, picture cards, PowerPoint presentations, and more. With the help of visualization, students tend to understand the concepts better and quicker. The classroom will become more engaging, and the scientific skills of students will be enhanced too.

2. Ask your students to come to the classes regularly

Senior secondary science subjects are complex for sure. Understanding them alone without teachers’ explanations and guidance will not be possible for students. Therefore regularity in the classes is important. By being irregular, students not only miss the topics being taught on that particular day but also the understanding of the further lessons is also affected as everything is interlinked. Therefore, ask your students to maintain regularity in classes. By using an attendance management software, keep track or record students’ attendance. Ask your students to not be absent frequently.

3. Have practice applicative questions in class

The main problem that students face with science subjects is how to solve numerical word problems. They face difficulty in understanding the question, which formula to apply, and how to get an accurate answer. Students don’t know the right techniques because of which they find physics and chemistry difficult.

Teachers must take the necessary steps in this regard. Along with explaining the topics, manage to have practice sessions in the class too. Start with some simple questions. Ask students to read the question carefully and think of a proper formula. Be a helping hand to them. Later, you can practice some high-order thinking numerical too.

4. Encourage students and ask them to have patience

Many students lack patience. When they don’t get the expected results quickly, they lose interest in learning and trying. They just have a few trials, and when they don’t get correct solutions to the answers, they feel frustrated, and sometimes demotivated. In such cases, teachers’ support is very much needed.

All teachers must have motivational discussions with students. Encourage them to keep trying and not lose hope. Suggest some quality ways of learning. Tell students to have patience, and be consistent with their studies from day one. Gradually, their academic performance will be enhanced to a great extent.

5. Have lab visits

Physics, chemistry, and biology are subjects that cannot be understood fully from the conventional textbook material. Real-life and first-hand experience of the science concepts is equally important. Therefore teachers must conduct lab visits for students. By using a school management system, teachers can plan when to have theory classes and lab visits respectively.

Bio labs: along with theory classes take students to biology labs. By seeing the plants, and animal specimens, performing dissections, and other experiments, students will be able to have better clarity of the syllabus.

Physics lab: physics is difficult for many students to understand. However, by performing the experiments in the physics lab, physics becomes more understandable to them. Concave lens, the convex lens, focal length, prism, open circuit, making a closed circuit, learning how the current passes through a conductor, all these demonstrations and experiments will be very beneficial for senior secondary science learners.

Chemistry lab: chemistry lessons are full of chemical compounds, reactions, elements, and their properties. These organic chemistry concepts become more understandable for students by performing experiments in science labs.

Conclusion

In senior secondary classes, academic subjects become detailed and complex. The same happens with science streams too. By following the above-mentioned tips, teachers can teach physics, chemistry, and biology effectively to senior secondary classes. This will help students to have a proper understanding and enhance their science skills.
