Contain The Water

The first step in the rightful direction is how to contain the water and protect your valuable, appliances from getting soaked up by rain. Place a bowl, bucket, or any container directly under the leaks to hold the water that may be soiling everywhere. If there are heavy leaks, make sure you have a spare bucket or container handy for replacement.

Find the Source

Trying to find the sources where the leak is coming from maybe a bit difficult. The common cause of leaks can be issues relating to plumbing or AC units. But then the leaks only happen during the rain, it is most likely to be a problem from the roof or it could be a problem with your leaf guard system.

When the rain recedes a bit, try climbing on your roof and check if you can able to identify where water seeps into your building. Also, check if your gutters are clogged. Clogged gutters would allow water to build up which will later seep into your home. If you can, clear the gutters immediately of debris to free up the collected water.

Take notes and pictures of the leaking spot if you are able as this will help in fixing it when the rain finally stops.

Check Attic

The place you don’t want to miss during leaks in the attic. If it’s accessible, check your attic with a torch. Check for areas dripping with water or wet areas along with the insulation. This will let you know the exact area of the sources of the leak.

Apply Roofing Tar

If your roofing material is removable tiles, it is very easy and quick to stop a leak during a heavy downpour. Remove the tiles around the spot of the leak and apply the tar to the inner source of the leaks, this will hold against the ceiling from leaking for the time being before you carry out a permanent fix.

Install New Shingles

The condition of your shingles is one of the determining factors as to whether there will be leaks during heavy rainfall. Shingles with curls, bruises, and missing pieces will allow water to leaks when there is heavy rain.

Remove the broken shingles with a straight edge hammer nail’s removal hook and apply the new replacement with a nail and roofing tar.

Conclusion

All the above are a temporal fix to protect your building interior from damage. On no account should you relegate calling a professional roofer immediately to have a check as soon as the rain stopped because of the temporary fixes you’ve carried out. This way, you will be able to prevent future occurrence of water leaking into your home during heavy rainfall.
